India beat Pakistan by seven wickets in Asia Cup 2025

In a high-profile Asia Cup clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, India secured a dominant seven-wicket victory over arch-rivals Pakistan. The win, their second in as many matches, all but guarantees their spot in the Super Four stage of the tournament.

Pakistan's Batting Falters
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Pakistan's innings never truly got off the ground. India's pacers, led by Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah, struck early to remove the openers. However, it was the spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel who wreaked havoc in the middle overs, stifling the scoring and picking up key wickets. Kuldeep, who was named Player of the Match for the second time in a row, was particularly effective, finishing with figures of 3/18. Axar Patel chipped in with 2/18.

Pakistan's top and middle order crumbled, with only Sahibzada Farhan (40) and a late, aggressive cameo from Shaheen Afridi (33 off 16) providing any resistance. The team was ultimately restricted to a meager 127/9 in their 20 overs.

A Swift and Clinical Chase
Chasing a modest target of 128, India's batsmen came out with clear intent. Opener Abhishek Sharma got the innings off to a flying start, smashing a quickfire 31 off just 13 balls. While Shubman Gill and Abhishek fell in quick succession, the chase was expertly anchored by skipper Suryakumar Yadav.

Suryakumar, celebrating his 35th birthday, played a calm and composed unbeaten knock of 47 runs from 37 balls. He was ably supported by Tilak Varma, who contributed a steady 31 off 31. The duo built a crucial partnership that took the game away from Pakistan. The final blow came from the bat of Suryakumar, who sealed the victory with a six, guiding India to a comfortable win with 25 balls to spare.

For Pakistan, Saim Ayub was the only bowler to find success, taking all three Indian wickets. However, the lack of a competitive total proved to be the team's undoing. This loss leaves Pakistan with a lot of work to do as they look to find their form and secure a spot in the next round.
